(N) Press Release: Anette Olzon Departs Nightwish

In a shock announcement, Finnish symphonic metal band Nightwish have announced that they have parted ways with vocalist Anette Olzon (pictured top-left). Olzon replaced original singer Tarja Turunen in 2007 and recorded two studio albums with the band. The news comes as Nightwish are undergoing their current tour – the Imaginaerum World Tour.

ReVamp and former After Forever vocalist Floor Jansen (pictured top-right) has been named as Olzon's temporary replacement in Nightwish, and will be performing on the tour.

Here is a statement from Nightwish about the move:
“Another chapter of the Nightwish story has ended today. Nightwish and Anette Olzon have decided to part company, in mutual understanding, for the good of all parties involved.
In recent times it has become increasingly obvious that the direction and the needs of the band were in conflict, and this has led to a division from which we cannot recover.
Nightwish has no intention of cancelling any upcoming shows, and as a result we have decided to bring in a substitute vocalist starting in Seattle 1.10.2012. Her name is Floor Jansen from The Netherlands (ex-After Forever, ReVamp), and she has graciously stepped in to help us complete the Imaginaerum world tour.
We are all strongly committed to this journey, this vehicle of spirit, and we are sure that this will lead to a brighter future for everyone.
We forever remain excited about the adventures to come, and we are extremely proud of the two beautiful albums and the wonderful shows we shared together.”

It is currently unknown whether Olzon recent hospitalisation due to a suspected large cyst in her liver, played any role in the band’s decision.

Tarja Turunen has responded to fan comments asking if she would be returning to vocal duties in light of Anette’s departure.

“I would be ready to return to Nightwish – if all the band and management were changed. No one knows what I went through over the years with the band. I accept how hard it is for fans to understand my feelings.”

Tarja also revealed that she was “not surprised” by Anette’s recent departure from Nightwish; as she was ‘dismissed’ from the band in 2007 by keyboardist Tuomas Holopainen who presented her with an open letter at the end of a tour.
