Popular alternative Hull pub/venue, Hollywood and Vine, has closed its doors. It has been a turmoil racked few months for the local alternative scene; with The Mint, Spectrum and The Lamp closing, as well as the lengthy period of uncertainty surrounding the fate of HnV.
Hollywood and Vine has been host to some of the city’s best gigs, attracting bands such as; Old Corpse Road, Wolfcrusher, Sworn to Oath and Mentallica. And despite financial issues relating to attendance, the venue remains popular due to its free entry policy.
Just like many of the gigs scheduled to take place at The Lamp, many will be taking place instead at other venues such as Ringside; though it is recommended to check with those involved with a particular gig for more information.
Owner Mac posted a statement regarding the status of HnV, as well as wishing to dispel rumors regarding its closure:
As from Wednesday 8th August, Hollywood and Vine will close for a refurb/rethink. Details of reopening will be posted as soon as confirmed. Massive apologies to the bands booked in over this time we will try and rejig to get your shows on elsewhere while this is happening. I would like to point out, this is for a variety of reasons, and it was not after a "drugs raid" - that was actually a yearly combined visit from the fire brigade, police and Council which every venue/bar gets.Of note apart from two non-working exit lights it was all good. I hope this will put that silly rumor to bed. A big thank you to all that have worked/helped and visited H+V. It will be back bigger and better. Again sorry to the bands booked, I am in the process of sorting venues so gigs will go on. Please if you want to know anything ask here don’t try and make a plausible story up to Chinese whisper around. Thank you.
We will bring you more information as it comes.
